How to hide NPC stat blocks from players

I recently discovered Realm VTT for my DnD campaign, and I’m absolutely loving it so far. As a new DM, I was really struggling with other VTTs before, but this one feels so simple and user-friendly.

However, I’ve run into a small issue. Currently, when I place an NPC/Monster on the map, my players are able to click on it and see the entire stat block/info block. I want to keep the stats, abilities, and health hidden so they don’t get spoiled during combat.

Is there a setting or a specific way to restrict player access to NPC sheets, or to hide the stat blocks entirely while still allowing them to see the token on the map?

Awesome, glad to hear it! (Thanks so much for joining us!)

Players can only open / view stat blocks for Friendly NPCs. If you change the faction to Friend (via the right click token context menu) then they can control and open the stat block.

Also Co-GMs can also open stat blocks. Only set player’s to Co-GM if you want them to have GM like permissions.

Let me know if that helps!

Ohh I see, thank you!

The problem was that I only tested it with friendly NPCs, so I missed that.

Will there be an option in the future to toggle whether players can see friendly NPC stat blocks? It would be great to have allies on the map without the players knowing all their stats or health.

Oh glad you figured it out! And that is something I can consider for the future!
For now, that is really intended to be used for Familiars / Summons / Animal Comanions (things they have control over.) You can use the “Neutral” faction for NPCs that aren’t technically enemies, but shouldn’t be openable/controllable.
